Prologue
I was afraid of the outcome that stared me in the face. I could see my world slipping right through my fingers and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I was so afraid looking into his eyes.
He was leaving me and there was nothing I could do to stop it. No matter how hard I scared or cried he was going to die here in my arms.
The coldness of his skin made me shiver. It was even colder than it was before, like ice melting across my skin griping my hand tightly. My heart raced and the heat in my skin did nothing for the coolness of his flesh.
I wished harder than anything that I was stronger. He had always told me I was, but right now I felt weaker then I had ever felt in my life.
It was like no matter how hard I wanted to see past this, no matter how hard I kept wishing his brothers would show up, none of the above was going to happen.
I was the person he had saved, yet I couldn’t even do the same for him. If only he had stayed away, if only I had listened. Maybe this would have ended differently.
Chapter 1
Forbidden Four
School: Boring, uneventful, and most of all a waste of time.
As I sat in my last hour class I found myself upset at the outcome of another boring day. I wanted nothing more than to go home and lay down in my bed. It was Friday after all. Nothing better to do than rest in and hope school wouldn’t come too soon.
“Bonnie, do you think we’ll see the forbidden four today?” Angelica, my best friend, asked as the teacher tried to finish handing out our assignment.
I hated the forbidden four. Every girl in this school-other than me-found them to be everything they wanted in a guy. I found them annoying.
They walked the halls as if they owned the school and no one dared tell them otherwise. Not to mention every time they went out with a girl from school she always came back the next day so lifeless. They always looked like the life had been sucked from their very body. But that never seemed to stop the girls from wanting to go out with them again.
“I’m sure they will be, Angelica.” I said to her as I stared into her green eyes. “They are here.”
Angelica bounced in her chair making her long black hair fall over her face. She eyed the clock then looked back at me with a frown on her pretty face.
“I really want to go out there before they leave.” She bit her bottom lip. “I really want to see Jay.”
I rolled my eyes. Jay was like the leader of the forbidden four. I thought as I shrugged my shoulders.
“I’m sure they are still here. The bell hasn’t ringed yet.” I told her as I wrote down the work we had to do.
Complete all the problems on page fifty four. Sounds boring enough. I thought as I put the notebook in my book bag.
“But you know that they tend to leave really early on the fourth Friday of every month.” She wined.
“Did I?” I asked honestly, not knowing what she was talking about.
“Yup, I pay very close attention to it. Ever since they came to our school, they always leave early on the last Friday of every month.” Angelica said shaking her head. She then bit her bottom lip. “I bet it’s because they go to that club on Fifth Street.”
“I’m surprised you know all of this,” I told her, laughing quietly. “Even when it seems you can’t even remember to write down our homework assignment.”
“Who cares about homework when the bell should have rung by now?” She let out a groan.
“Don’t you find it strange that you and like all the other girls like them so much?” I asked her, setting down my pen. “So what their hot, and have money…..Why does everyone love to kiss their butts?”
“Oh so you think their hot too.” She squealed, completely ignoring my question. “I knew you did. No one dislikes them.”
I sighed and rolled my eyes. I was not in the mood to argue about them. I just did not understand how people can act they were freaking celebrities or something.
“Whatever, Ang.” I shook my head, looking at the clock.
“Bonnie,” She was cut off by the bell. “About time!”
All of the other students in our class began to grab their things quickly, just like Angelica, but she had this look on her face that told me she rather leave her books in the class and come back to get them later than miss seeing the forbidden four.
My eyes looked around the room and I saw that the other students had the same look on their faces.
They must all be rushing out of class or rushing to see them. I guessed my last thought was the right answer. Everyone always hurried to see them.
The forbidden four never tended to stay around school very long and, for the most part, they only came to school enough for a normal person to pass and sometimes less than that.
It was still shocking for me to see that they maintained perfect grades when they only came to school when they felt like it. I didn’t understand how they were allowed all those absences. But then again, they did have money and it did run long.
“Class, remember to bring your homework on Monday.” The teacher called after all of us and I shook my head letting Angelica drag me out of the classroom.
Angelica walked with me out into the hall ways. I stared at her not knowing why I had to come to see the forbidden four walk the halls.
People only called them the forbidden four because it seemed that they were all off limits to anyone who had tried to get close to them. They were like the forbidden fruit at its highest max. Maybe that was one of the reasons most of the girls in my school liked them so much. They all wished to be the one to break them of their forbidden spell.
“Look Bonnie, it’s the forbidden four!” Angelica squealed as she stood ther
e in the halls, only a few lockers away from mine watching them as they walked down the hall way.
My eyes stared at them. I knew who they were. I wanted to tell her. I knew them the very first moment they walked into our high school. There was no way of missing them. They were too perfect and handsome for one’s eyes to not go right to them. The forbidden four claimed to be brothers, though they all looked very different from each other.
There was Damon who was a year ahead of me, standing like he was a God among bugs. A small smirk played on his lips as his brown eyes took all of us in.
Nathaniel walked next to Damon. He was only slightly shorter then Damon and only in the tenth grade, but the way his green eyes stared at women who could be twice his age made me think he knew about some things then I ever wanted to know.
I folded my arms hating how the two of them looked as the walk towards the door, before I could frown I saw him.
Leon.
He walked a few feet behind them with his head down, making his blonde hair cover his face. Although I didn’t really care about them, there was just something about Leon that made me want to know him.
He may not have been the best looking out of all the brothers, that Jay won hands down, but he was in one of my classes and he always seemed so quite…so sweet. He never acted like the rest of them, especially Jay.
Where was Jay? My mind asked as I watched the other guys walked down the hall heading to the door.
“I wanted to see Jay.” Angelica whined. She looked at the boys walk out of the school. “I do like them, but Jay….is so hot!”
I frowned, hating to ever tell her that I agreed. Jay was the kind of guy girls had wet dreams about. He was too good looking for words.
It was almost like perfect was the only way to truly describe his looks. Brown-gold hair, tanned skin, and crystal clear blue eyes. Any girl would find his looks to die for, but his attitude had me looking the other way.
“He is probably making out with some girl.” I said as I started to head to my locker.
“I wish he would ask me out.” Angelica sighed. “I wish any of them would ask me out.”
“Angelica haven’t you noticed that ever since they came here bodies have been popping up everywhere and what about their past girlfriends. They come back to school so lifeless.”
Angelica’s green eyes stared into my eyes with false interest. “Oh Bonnie, they are only like that for a few days and I think I know why.” Her pale face began to hold a faint blush on it. “And anyways who cares? You act like they are killing people. I am on good terms with most of those girls and every one of those girls has said that they wish they could go on another date with the forbidden four.”
I wanted to roll my eyes but chose not to. She wouldn’t listen to me anyways.
“Bonnie! Angelica!” I turned my head to see Beth running down the hall. Her blonde hair flowing past her shoulders, matching her newly tanned golden skin. She stopped right in front of us, her blue eyes wide with happiness. “Guess who spoke to me today?”
“Who?” Angelica asked not really acting as if she cared.
Beth didn’t seem to notice as she jumped up and down. “One of the forbidden four!”
Angelica’s eyes sparkled with anger and I watched as she seemed to now want to know everything Beth was going to say.
“Tell me now!” Angelica said.
“Well I was walking in the hall and I forgot that the forbidden four were going to be walking out at that time.” Yeah right. She did. “I ended up bumping right into Nathaniel! He looked at me and said ‘Why don’t we do something later?’ I was like yes!”
I looked at her, not really understanding why Nathaniel said that to her. Yes she was very pretty, but Nathaniel seemed to have a thing for older women.
“I can’t believe it! Why you?” Angelica said her eyes full of hate. “I’m prettier then you are!”
Beth smiled at her. “You wish you were.”
Angelica and Beth looked at one another then laughed.
“You aren’t lying are you?” Angelica asked after they stopped laughing.
“Yes I am, but wouldn’t it be great if it was true.” Beth said tossing her long hair from her shoulders. “If only!”
“I have to go.” I told them getting bored with the subject of the forbidden four.
“Ok I will see you later, Jonathan asked me out.” Beth said and sighed slightly. “Now that is not a lie.”
I couldn’t believe Jonathan had finally asked her out. I smiled, knowing how much he liked her; I just hoped Beth would come to see she liked him to.
“Well bye girls.” Beth left, leaving me and Angelica together in the hall.
“I’m happy that Jonathan asked her out finally.” I said smiling.
“Yeah, yeah and I hope Keith asks you out soon to.” She laughed, quickly.
“What?” I asked not understanding what was going on. Keith was my friend and her cousin. He didn’t really want to ask me out, did he? No she was just messing with me.
“Nothing, Bonnie.” Angelica frowned and put her hand on the back of her neck. “Hey Bonnie, let’s go to that club on Fifth tonight! You know that the forbidden four always go there the last Friday every month.” Angelica beamed as I put my books into my locker.
Yeah I think I do. I thought as I sighed. I think you just told me that in class, not that I wanted to know.
“I think not.” I told her and closed my eyes. I didn’t like them. They gave me this feeling that didn’t sit well with me at all.
“Please! I can’t go by myself and you are my best friend.” She said grabbing my hands.
“Ok, I just have to ask my mom.”
“Great! I can pick you up at eight and wear something nice ok. We are going to have so much fun.” Angelica said as she walked away from me. It was as if she knew I might change my mind soon if she didn’t leave me alone quickly.
I watched her leave and sighed to myself.
Why did I have to agree to go with her? I thought as I walked down the school hallway. I know she would kill me if I didn’t go with her, but I didn’t really like the forbidden four.
I didn’t know them and would hate it if some was judging me the way I was doing to them, but there was just something that wasn’t right with them.
When I got to the end of the hall I had to go through the doorway that led to the parking lot. When I opened the door I had no idea that he would be standing there with a girl. Jay’s lips were on the girl’s neck kissing and sucking. I just stood there staring at him, not able to understand why my legs couldn’t move.
The girl was moaning and pulling him closer. His lips were just about to touch hers when he stopped. My legs seemed to find life again and I was about to turn around when I heard his strong, beautiful voice.
“What are you doing?” He asked, as he pulled his lips away from the girl’s.
I was able to see so her face more clearly. I didn’t know who she was but she looked at me as if she knew me. I turned my head from them both.
“Oh that’s Bonnie.” The girl said. She turned her head, only for me to see her red hair moving with her head. “This is probably the closest she’ll ever get to having some action.”
I wanted to slap the girl for even saying such a thing. She didn’t know me. I rolled my eyes then looked back at him.
His blue eyes looked almost stormy as he stared at me. He didn’t seem like he was really paying any attention to the girl in his arms.
“I was just leaving.” I said. His eyes stared into mine as if they were moths to a flame. I wasn’t sure if he was angry or not.
“Why don’t you join us, Bonnie?” He asked as I put one hand on the door.
I looked back at him and saw that the red head in his arms looked slightly put off. But I could tell she wasn’t going to say anything. She had probably been waiting for her chance to get him like this. I, on the other hand, was angry.
How dare he ask me that? Did he think that I was just going
to go over there and make out with him because he was so very beautiful?
How dare he?
“I think not.” I responded.
“Want me to yourself?” Jay asked. That’s when I noticed that his hands had left from around the red haired girl waist. His eyes were so focused on me that it made me shiver.
“No.” I said then left, almost running out of the door.
I took the long way to the parking lot. I didn’t care if it took me a few more minutes. I just didn’t want him to see that I was shivering from how his eyes had stared at me.
The drive home felt like the longest drive I had ever taken in my life. I was so angry by the time I pulled up to my house that I didn’t even pay any real attention to the fact that my older sister’s car was parked in front of the house.
I didn’t even wonder why they were here. I was to upset by the fact that Jay had such nerve to ask me something like that.
After I walked into my house-the door was open- and saw that my sister was on the couch with her husband and our father, I smiled.
They all seemed like they were in deep conversation. I cared too little to even try and ask what they were talking about. I kept walking to go get something to drink when I heard my sister’s voice saying something to me. I knew I was being rude not saying anything to her or even trying to guess what she had said to me, but I just was too angry to even care.
Jay was beyond rude. What was worst was the fact that I can’t stop thinking about how rude he was. Why was I holding on to something like this? It wasn’t like he was my friend or anything….my friends weren’t anything like him.
In fact Angelica may have been my best friend and Beth was close behind that, but our other friends like Keith, Jonathan, Madison-well she wasn’t really my friend-, and Reed were close to me as well.
I knew that if I talked to Keith, Jonathan, or Reed-really Keith- they all would agree that Jay was rude.
My hand went to the refrigerator door and I opened it. I could see that my mom had made some lemonade and I shook my head at drinking that. I wanted some water, nice and cold. But it seemed we didn’t have any more bottled water and this made me sigh.
